About Social Creatives Ltd

Picture
Who Are We:

Social Creatives is a registered charity since 2008 with global footprints and was incorporated in Singapore. We do heART in eARTh where art reaches our soul and is engraved to communities. Our approach is through the believe of a paintbrush where different communities come together to create masterpieces. We do community art and our strengths are public murals, void deck art galleries and artworks in social welfare organisations as well as managed a museum art gallery. To date we have created 700 artworks, partnered with 60 non-profits and 50 companies. We also have a strong overseas network of artists and non-profits by having had projects in 7 countries and was involved with a United Nations Development Programme that involved 20 port-of-calls. We broke Guinness Book of Records as well as engaged the President thrice.

However, the tears of joy and social impact motivates us more. This include the story of Mr Chandra Kumar who was formerly a drug addict and was diagnosed with diabetes resulting in the amputation of his legs. Despite all this, he would be watching us from a distance with a smile whenever we were at our Void Deck Gallery. He explained that he stayed alone in his one-room flat but the Void Deck Art Gallery gives him comfort, hope and brightens his world.

Why Mural Painting (Our strength)

Do you know what the first form of arts is? Cave Paintings! The paintings on the walls are known as Murals. Through mural making, we are an arts intermediary that connects people to one another, social issues and the society. We believe in the process and outcomes of mural painting to bring out the best of both our artistic and social impacts.

OUR PROCESSES: Team building, corporate-social investment, participative engagement, and artworks adoption

OUR OUTCOMES:  Public Murals,  Murals in One Room Flats, Welfare Murals, Void Deck Art Galleries and Art Jam

ARTISTIC IMPACT: Artistic exposure, artistic appreciation, city beautification, arts therapy,
cultural diplomacy, audience development and art intervention

SOCIAL IMPACT: Sense of belonging, improved esteem, happiness, integration inclusion of communities
and we also promote the software in our hardware.

“August 26 2011:  Sunday Times, Dr Tony Tan’s response to Social Creatives which organises the painting of murals in public spaces was:

“We can do a great deal to encourage young people. They are creative but face a lot of challenges in pursuing their dreams. What they do is good for society. It makes Singapore a more vibrant and fair place.”

Our Lost Home @ Philips

Social Creatives was based in a 6000sqf space in Philips Electronics where we transformed the entire space with just $2000 from an empty bare unit.

There were 4 rooms, a pool table, fully carpeted and 15 work stations.

The space assisted greatly in our creative development, studio capabilities, artistic excellence and administration benefiting many groups.

Social Creatives sent an Artist team of 10 people to create a total of 10 public artworks. The artworks created were a mixture of artistic expressions, collaboration with local Nepali artists as well as community engagement murals. To maximize outreach and “volun-tourism”, a Delegates Team joined the programme. For more information on this project, please click the header that will bring you to our micro-site.

Painting Berlin 2014

Painting Berlin was led by a team of 7 (artists, coordinators and assistant artists). Social Creatives was introduced to a youth culture centre and shelter called Linse at Frankfurtur Alley. We held sessions with their beneficiaries to get a better understanding of their culture and interests. Through these consultation sessions, a series of sketches were illustrated on the walls to maximize the process and outcome of community art. Fringe activities such as street art exposure, learning about the Berlin Wall as well as graffiti canvas battles, were organised as well.
